Maigo turns over loose firearms to 2nd Mechanized Brigade

ILIGAN CITY, June 26 –- About 28 assorted loose firearms were turned over by the local government unit of Maigo, Lanao del Norte led by Hon. Rafael C. Rizalda to the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade (2Mech Bde) on June 25, 2019 at MSU-MSAT Function Hall, Brgy. Poblacion, Maigo. 

For almost 14 months of the brigade’s campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms, the 2Mech Bde under the stewardship of Brigadier General Ezra James P. Enriquez together with its subordinate units (5th Mech Bn, 4th Mech Bn and 51IB) accumulated 850 assorted loose firearms, 446 of which were high-powered firearms while 404 were categorized as low-powered firearms.

The turnover of loose firearms in the Municipality of Maigo was already the 33rd turnover ceremony conducted in the area of operations of 2Mech Bde.

The said municipality is also the operational area of 5th Mechanized Infantry Battalion under the leadership of Lt. Col. Rolando D. Orengo.

The turn over was also attended by MGen. Roberto T. Ancan, Commander of 1st Infantry Division, Philippine Army.

During his remarks, Ancan urged everyone to continue the efforts in pursuing lasting peace not just for Mindanao but for the whole country.

He also encouraged everyone to support the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) development support and security plan “Kapayapaan” to finally win the peace in this part of Mindanao.

Likewise, Enriquez extended his gratitude to the local government unit of Maigo, especially Mayor Rizalda, for his commitment to peace and for exerting extra effort to facilitate the turn over of loose firearms.

He also encouraged those who still possess loose firearms to turn it over to their local chief executives or to the nearest security forces in the area.

The 2Mech Bde is committed to perform its mandate to maintain the peace and order in the province and relentless in protecting its constituents from threat groups. (2nd Mech/AFP)
